16. Week 9 Sharing - Scheduling, problems and plans
Progress hasn't been great. I'd hate to make excuses, but I think one key reason for my current state is that I severely underestimated the difficulty of the tasks I had set out to accomplish. After the week 9 progress sharing (the powerpoint will be included in the files), I'd had to reconsider what I'll be able to make at all. after the initial success with figuring out apps, I'm back to being stuck on making things.
Issue 1 - Don't think I'll have time to figure out a custom mp3 player
I had initially wanted to follow this tutorial to work out a smaller and more compact music player, but with my struggles on the app side, I'll probably just end up using the Cytron mp3 shield, which I had also used last semester.
This means that I'll need to take my project apart after I get it back after the semester, which sucks. The fact that the shield is no longer in production also means that I'll have a hard time procuring one for myself to work on in the future.
Issue 2 - Building the media recorder part of the app
I only managed the time to try out this weirdly silent tutorial for the voice recording part of my app, but the moment I tried to run it on my phone (after triple and quadruple checking the code), it just crashed. Like the app literally wouldn't run at all, to my frustration. Decided to ditch the recording and file uploading altogether, and basically make a glorified Bluetooth remote control for the arduino mp3 shield. Which isn't too bad, but it's a lot simpler from what I had originally planned.
Issue 3 - User test???
The fact that I still don't have a functioning prototype 2 weeks to the deadline means that I'm unable to hit the target of having a user test in the blog by week 10. In fact, I might end up not having a user test at all, which sucks. But at the same time, given the amount of work it took to get the ethics clearance to user test my CMNMM project, I'd imagine it would be even worse for this project, as my target audicnce is children aged 4-10, as well as their parents.
Honestly at this stage I'm just trying to survive the semester
